Welcome to My World.
Hello! I am Claire L. Fishback, published author of thriller/suspense, horror, and other dark things!I live in Morrison, Colorado with my hell hound, Belle, and my husband, Tim. He is the most wonderful person in the world... so supportive of my dreams and goals, he keeps me grounded in reality and I keep him on his toes and show him alternate perspectives to situations. I earned a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology in 2009 and have since used the knowledge gleaned from two years of schooling to master character development.
Why Thriller/Suspense? Why Horror? Why Dark Stuff?
I think I gravitate toward writing thrilling and scary stuff because I personally love to be scared and thrilled and left in suspense!
I have been writing horror since I was about 11 years old. Back then, my stories were modelled after the scary stories books that had black, white, and red covers and frightening illustrations called Scary Stories, More Scary Stories, and Scary Stories III. One of my favorite stories from one of those books was called "Harold." That one still scares me when I read it... it scares me just to think about it. That is what I strive for with my writing. Memorable stories that stick with my readers long after they have read "The End."
If I can write something that gives someone nightmares, or makes them think about it long after because it was so chilling, or even move them in any way, I feel like I have changed them in some way. To me, having the ability to change someone, even if it is so minimal that no one knows about it, is a powerful thing.

Non-Writing Interests
(This picture was taken just after my husband and I participated in an event for the Lung Cancer Association in which we ran up 56 flights of stairs in Denver, CO in February 2009).
Aside from writing, I am an avid reader. I love to read. I love reading all kinds of things. I read thriller/suspsense, of course, but also young adult, romantic suspense, sci-fi, fantasy, and even some mainstream literary works, like Life of Pi, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, and The Art of Racing in the Rain. I have enjoyed memoirs and autobiographies, too. My favorite is Papillon by Henri Charriere, and The Unwanted by Kien Nguyen.
I love to eat ice cream close to bedtime so I'll have nightmares.
I like running because it gives me time to be alone with my own thoughts. Sometimes I get great ideas while I'm running because I zone out, hypnotized by my own breathing and the pounding of my feet on the pavement. My new love is mountain biking. My husband took me last year and created a monster. I have a Cannondale mountain bike.
I love my dog. I walk her in the ice and snow.
Best of all, I love being married. I love being a wife, and what it means to be a wife. My husband is my best friend.
